History

The origin of Den Hartogh Logistics lies in the shipping world. Jacobus den Hartogh had the chance to take over a ship in the 1920s. A horse and cart were quickly added and the basis for intermodal logistics was laid.

A number of Army vehicles were bought in the 1950s to expand the fleet rapidly. Transport in the Netherlands was growing fast, and Den Hartogh with it. The permits system at that time prompted Den Hartogh to start taking over nearby competitors. This was the start of the European network.

Meanwhile, the (chemical) industry in the Botlek was growing. Therefore there was a large demand for transporters to carry the goods further into Europe. Den Hartogh saw their opportunity and the first tank lorry was purchased in 1970; the growth of a Logistics Service Provider had started. The services were complemented with storage to provide an optimum service to the clients.

There was also international expansion. Europe became the working area and the international branches could supply something extra to the clients. Belgium became the first branch abroad in 1970. Spain, Germany, Poland, France, Hungary, Switzerland, Italy and Turkey followed. Clients can thus be optimally served with creative solutions within the logistics chain. Den Hartogh's team continues to refine and improve this every day.
