For Hexion, Den Hartogh Logistics Management takes care of the overall logistics management of bulk liquids throughout Europe. Annually this involves about 12,000 transports with tanker trucks and tank containers. The actual execution of these transports is contracted out to 4 selected carriers: each carrier with its own geographical destination areas and with its own logistic specialisms.

Every day our key account manager Peter de Jonge is on the job to supervise the execution of all transport orders from Hexion. In addition, he is active preventing possible problems during this process. He is the contact person between the staff of Hexion and the carriers. He keeps control using the DCFusion IT system of Den Hartogh Logistics Management. Peter is also responsible for checking the performed quality and safety. At the end of each month he draws up the necessary reports and presents the results to Hexion Management and used carriers.

Without the appropriate IT systems it would not be feasible to work so quickly and efficiently and to collect sound management information. Therefore Den Hartogh Logistic Management has powerful IT systems at its disposal, such as DCFusion. The IT systems in the supply chain are interconnected as much as possible in order to eliminate unnecessary manual labour and errors in the data.

The transport orders go to the carrier via computerised systems. All carriers have their own connection with the DCFusion system and work actively with the data, including coordination of the loading times, reporting on actual unloading times, recording of weights being transported, etcetera. Invoicing is also handled completely within DCFusion. For Hexion the system is highly convenient: they now only have 1 contact point for all bulk liquids logistics, and standardised, powerful management information as well as efficient invoicing.

The first reactions of the carriers involved are positive. They experience the DCFusion system as user-friendly and have found Peter de Jonge to be a good sounding board. Hexion Logistic Manager Gerard Boerlage is also positive: “The implementation has gone exactly as planned. We are on schedule and our joint expectations are coming true. All we have to do now is to continue on this course and to keep on striving for optimisation”.
