1. What's your role at the Den Hartogh Logistics office in Immingham?
I actually have two different main tasks at the moment: I am in Fleet Management and I am involved in Planning. That's just how it evolved over the past few months.
As a planner I look after the day by day jobs of the English Trucks. The fleet aspect is arranging services and repairs alongside David, who is my colleague. Part of my job is to issue order numbers, keep record of services and repairs etc. I'm also involved in keeping an eye on fuel and ad blue. I look at the consumption and compare it to the rest of the fleet.

Hans Herms is a young professional at Den Hartogh Logistics. He works at the office in Oss. Although he says he's not overly ambitious, he's a serious and undertaking colleague. 'You have to be on the move, learn things and evolve when you're young.' |
1. How did you come to work for Den Hartogh Logistics?
I worked for another logistics company as a planner. Although I enjoyed it, after three years I had reached the limit of my possibilities, in terms of growth and challenges. So when I saw the vacancy for a transport planner at Den Hartogh Logistics, I applied. It led to a very interesting conversation, after which I was very enthusiastic about the industry, which was new to me, and the possibilities I saw at Den Hartogh Logistics. Within two weeks all was settled, and I could start in my job a month later.

Joep Aerts has been working at Den Hartogh Logistics as ICT and Business Process Manager since March 2008. He manages the Den Hartogh Logistics ICT team. |
1. What is your educational background and how has your career evolved?
I attended Eindhoven University where I did a major in Mathematics. While studying I developed an interest in ICT. As a result I chose a promotion thesis in which I combined mathematics and computer science. After graduating, I came to work with a consulting company called CQM. CQM specializes in optimizing logistic innovations; one of their activities is the development of mathematical algorithms, with which companies are able to optimise all their logistics processes. During the development of the Advanced Planning and Scheduling software for Den Hartogh Logistics and the integration of those tools in TransFusion (the Transport Management Software of Den Hartogh Logistics), I was the project manager for CQM. Eventually this led to me accepting a job as the head of the ICT department with Den Hartogh Logistics in March 2008.
