Environmental Sustainability

It is becoming clearer every day that the climate is changing and the large scale of combustion of fossil fuels is massive contributor to the greenhouse gas effect. The transport sector is responsible for a significant share of these emissions. We as Den Hartogh see that we should take responsibility and take a forward looking environmental policy. And as our customers embark on their own journey in the energy transition, we recognize our responsibility to provide them with a sustainable and environmentally-friendly supply chain. To fulfill this commitment, we have strategically implemented measures aimed at minimizing our greenhouse gas emissions.

Reducing emissions

We have set the ambitious target to reduce our CO2 intensity per ton-kilometer with 25% by the year 2025 compared to our base year of 2019. Our long-term vision aligns with the Paris Agreement, as we strive to achieve complete climate neutrality by the year 2050. In today's logistics market, achieving these targets is challenging. However, with our ambition, creativity, and deep commitment to sustainable logistics, we are confident in our ability to not only reach our goals but also outperform competitors in terms of sustainability.

We invest heavily into alternative fuels and methods of propulsions for our own trucks such as Hydrated vegetable oil (HVO), Liquid biogas (LBG) and electric trucking. And with our suppliers we make sure that alternative fuels for deep sea shipping become available. And all the while, we heavily invest in intermodal shift in the regions where this is possible. Each mode of transportation utilized, other than trucking, contributes to significant CO2 emission reductions.

Future in fuels

In the pursuit of a greener future, our Scandinavian operations are utilizing a selection of trucks that run on Liquid BioGas (LBG) and in the Rotterdam our first electric truck is active. We drive dedicately on HVO for our customer Shell and for Huntsman in the Rotterdam area, and we are making HVO available for most customers via our insetting project. We work with our shipping partners to make sure their sustainable options are also integrated in our logistics network. We are consistently achieving success in our ongoing efforts to enhance the efficiency of our operations.
